Fares Overview

Ways to Purchase Fares, Pricing & the Transit App.

Welcome to the fare overview guide for all SEAT bus fares and payment options. Here you’ll find a complete overview of all of our current pricing for single rides, ticket booklets, and passes. We offer multiple convenient ways to purchase your fare, but for the fastest and easiest way to pay for all fixed-route services, we strongly encourage you to download and use the Transit app. Below, you will find all the details you need to choose the best fare for your trip and information on how to purchase your passes online, in person, or right from your phone.

Transit App & SEAT HOP App.

Easily track your ride, find the fastest route to your destination, and follow simple, step-by-step directions. Plus, you can go paperless by buying your SEAT ticket directly in the app. Even better: if you’re connecting to other local transit agencies like CTtransit, WRTD, River Valley Transit, and Hartford line and Shoreline East trains, you can manage it all from this single, convenient app.

Ready to get started? Download the app here.

SEAT operates several HOP micro-transit service areas, which are on-demand services booked and paid for through a separate app. To request a ride in a HOP zone and learn how to use the service, click here.

Physical Tickets, Passes & Booklets.

While we encourage the convenience of mobile ticketing through the Transit app, SEAT continues to offer a range of traditional, physical fare options for your convenience. This includes single-ride tickets, multi-ride ticket booklets, and various time-based passes (1-Day, 5-Day, and 31-Day passes). These physical fares can be purchased at the bus, online, or at various authorized retail locations throughout southeastern Connecticut. Below, you will find detailed information and pricing for each physical fare option.

Passengers will need to have exact change, as bus operators do not have the ability to make change. Dollar bills, coins, tickets, and passes are all acceptable forms of payment.

Your SEAT duration pass (such as the 4-Hour ZIP, 1-Day, 5-Day, or 31-Day pass) is designed for convenience, but please note the following:

Activation and Use

  • Activation: The pass is not active until you use it on a SEAT fixed-route bus. When you first use a brand new pass, the timed period of use begins immediately.
    • Example: If you activate a 4-Hour ZIP Pass at 9:00 AM, it is valid until 1:00 PM that day.
  • Initial Use: To activate your new pass, insert it into the TRIM unit/fare box (color side facing you, notch at the top). The machine will time-stamp the expiration date on the back and return it to you.
  • Subsequent Use: To reuse an activated pass, swipe it on the swipe reader on the top of the fare box (white side facing you, magnetic strip on the bottom, swiping front-to-back). The fare box will “chirp” to confirm use.

Important Rules

  • Fixed-Route Only: Duration passes are only valid on SEAT Fixed-Route buses. They are NOT accepted on ADA Paratransit, HOP, or Smart Ride services.
  • Consecutive Days: Multi-Day passes are valid for CONSECUTIVE DAYS starting from the activation date. (e.g., a 5-Day Pass activated on the 1st expires on the 5th at 11:59 PM).
  • Non-Transferable: Passes are NON-TRANSFERABLE. You cannot hand the pass back to another person for boarding. Attempts to transfer a pass will result in the second person being denied access and required to pay with another fare.
  • No Value/Refunds: Passes have NO CASH VALUE and are NON-REFUNDABLE.
  • Treat with Care: Lost, stolen, expired, or damaged passes cannot be replaced and will not be accepted. Please treat your pass carefully—do not bend, fold, or put it through the washing machine.

Transfers allow customers to complete a one-way trip requiring multiple buses without an additional fare cost. These transfers are issued at the time of fare payment, and are time and trip limited. You cannot use a transfer on the route from which it was issued.

Transfers are not intended to make a round trip. We suggest purchasing a period pass (such as a ZIP pass or 1-day pass) for the purposes of a round trip.
